Making
Soaps and Shampoos
Making
soap is fun, easy to do and you know what's going into it. Most of the
stuff you can buy at the chemist.
The
basic ingredients are:
Making
a Dream Catcher
Dream catchers
are lovely to have, but can be so expensive to buy, so why not make your
own.
What
you need:
-
Wire hoop
-
Coloured cord for the web and for hanging
-
Jewellery thread or something similar for hanging the feathers etc
-
Beads (various shapes and sizes)
-
Feathers - buy them or find them
-
Crystals (optional)
-
Fossils - might be a nice idea to honour your ancestors
-
Anything else you wish to add to make it personal to you
Making
Wine
Start
making you own wine for rituals, it only takes a few basic peices of equipment
and a little patience. So start now by saving your old wine bottles, you'll
be surprised at how soon you'll start to fill them.
What
you'll need.
-
Demijohn - you only need 1 to start, cost about £3 for you local
brew shop
-
Yeast
-
Yeast nutrient
-
Cork bung with a hole already bored in it
-
Witch
Bag/Medicine Pouch
Fabric, leather or suede (whatever you like really)
-
Cord
(colour to match fabric)
-
Punch and metal eyelets (to stop fabric fraying)
Cut a circle
in a piece of material or leather/suede. Punch holes in the fabric at even
intervals, insert eyelets. Thread cord through the eyelets and tie knots
at the ends. Make belt loop or make holes for strap. Easy isn't
it. Never mind paying too much money at the shops.

Bead Curtain
-
Piece of dowling, just a bit bigger than the width
of the window or door.
-
Cord or string (allow extra length for knots to hold the beads in position)
-
Polymer clay or salt dough (see recipe for the dough)
-
Acrylic paints (if using salt dough)
Tie the
cord at equal spaces on the wooden dowel. Make it as close or far
apart as you wish.
Make
the shapes from the dough or clay. All kinds of shapes can be made,
crescent moons, stars, pentagrams, etc. Remember to make a big enough
hole in the shape to allow the cord to be passed through, try using skewers.
Put in the oven for the recommened time. If using dough, when cooled
you can paint them all sorts of colours, and then paint with some clear
varnish. Polmer clay is already coloured, so you won't have to do
a thing, though you may wish to varnish it, see product instructions.
The beads are ready to be strung. Remember to tie a knot beneath
each bead to hold it in place. Put a couple of hooks up where you
want the curtain to go and then put it up.
Making Hand Dipped Candles
You will need:
-
2-4lbs wax
chips (or melt down some old candles), you can use beeswax if you want
-
Candle wick
(available at craft shops)
-
Essential
oils and herbs (for scent and magickal goals)
-
Candle dye
or wax crayons (for colour)
-
An old bowl,
tin can or pan that can be fitted inside another (like for melting chocolate)
-
An old wooden
spoon, nothing metal
Grate or cut up the wax into
the bowl or tin and place this into a large pan of water once it has started
to boil. Just like you would do for melting chocolate. Keep the water
hot enough to keep the wax melted but not so hot that the
wax catches fire.
When the wax has completely
melted, cut the wax dye or crayons up and put into the wax.
Keep stirring until the crayons
have melted and the colour is even and smooth. Remember that the
candle will be a shade or two lighter when dry. The more dye - the deeper
the colour.
Now, add the herbs to the
wax. Empower with your energy and magickal intention while mixing them
into the wax. Stir
until it is thoroughly mixed. Next add 10-20 drops of pure essential
oil, until you get the strength of fragrance you want, do not use synthetic
oil, it ruins the magickal effect and doesn't smell so nice. Now your wax
is ready.
Start with a long piece of
wick, the candle length plus 3 inches. Dip the wick into the wax
and then lift back out. The wick
will want to float on top of the wax, you can if you are having problems
tie something like a coin to the end and them cut it off after a few dips.
Allow it to get completely cold between dippings when you first start.
After your candle has started
to take shape you can speed things up a little, by keeping a bowl of cold
water close by and dipping the candle in the water after each dipping in
the wax.
Keep repeating this process
until the candle is the size you require and then hang them up to dry.
Trim off any excess wax to make a flat base with a sharp knife. Cut the
wick and hang your candle up to let it set fully..
